About American Standard Companies
American Standard has a long history in the plumbing industry dating back to the 19th century, making a significant impact in public health sanitation. In 1880, the Standard Manufacturing Co. invented a process to coat hot steel castings with pulverized enamel, creating a smooth, sanitary surface that was easy to clean. This innovation led to the modern bathroom.
American Standard Companies, Inc. was later founded in 1929 when American Radiator Company and Standard Sanitary Manufacturing Company merged to form the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary Corporation. It was a global manufacturer of plumbing, heating and cooling systems and services, bath and kitchen products, and vehicle control systems. The company changed its name to American Standard Corporation in 1967. The group acquired Trane in 1984; and, after they divested everything but their HVAC product line in 2007, the company was renamed Trane, which became part of Ingersoll Rand the next year.
American Standard has developed many HVAC innovations that have raised the quality of their products and the comfort provided to homeowners. For example, by communicating to all system components, their AccuLink™ communicating control board helps maintain energy-efficiency and comfort level. Their Duration™ variable speed compressor makes adjustments as needed to also help maintain the energy-efficiency of the unit and the home’s comfort level.
