Louisville Sewer Line Repair Services

Anything that makes its way down a drain in a sink or other plumbing fixture eventually ends up moving through your sewer line before it reaches the city sewer or your private septic tank. The largest pipe in a home plumbing system, the sewer line takes on all waste and wastewater from every drain line in the home.

Many of the items sent down drains every day contribute to clogs that form in sewer lines. Food particles, hair, grease, paper, and almost anything else have the potential to collect and close off the interior of the pipe to block wastewater flow. When a clog occurs, fixtures throughout the home experience poor drainage, water backup, and sometimes even sewage backup. It is important to take care of clogs and other sewer line issues right away to avoid further damage to your underground pipes.

Jarboe’s Heating, Cooling & Plumbing has a team of professional plumbers available to repair sewer line issues in Louisville homes. Our plumbing pros take pride in repairing sewer line problems both big and small to restore the function of home drainage systems. Whether you need drain cleaning or trenchless sewer repair service, we are here to help – even helping you through a plumbing emergency.

Louisville Sewer Line Experts

Our sewer line repair services can be used to correct these common issues:

  • Backup. Materials in the sewer pipe build up to create a blockage that prevents waste and wastewater from exiting the home. When this occurs, water and sometimes even waste cannot move through the drain and backs up in fixtures. When sewage makes its way into the home, your family is at risk of sewer gas exposure, which can be deadly.

  • Sewer gas odor. The smell of sewage is distinct, and you’ll know it if the smell is inside your home. This odor is a sign of damage in the sewer line. Air should not be in the sanitary sewer system except at the vent stacks, so if you smell sewer gas in your home, something is wrong.

  • Tree root penetrations. The roots of shrubs and trees seek out water sources for continued growth. Sometimes the nearest source is an underground sewer pipe, so roots will gravitate and grow towards it. They’re strong enough to break open the pipe and continue to grow within. Eventually, the roots will grow to a size that blocks the sewer or will have caught enough materials from waste to create a clog.

  • Sagging pipes. Underground sewer pipes are affected by the surrounding ground and soil. They can start to sag when soil is displaced, which creates a bend or valley in the pipe. Matter collects in this low section and accumulates to create a clog.

  • Burst pipes. Shifting soil, freezing ground temperatures, and settling of soil have the potential to crack, puncture, or break buried plumbing pipes. This damage causes sewage to leak out of the line into the ground, causing contamination. Soil, tree roots, and stones also have a path to enter the line where they may accumulate to restrict drainage.

  • Sewer leaks affect the lawn. Homeowners sometimes report lush patches of lawn over their sewer pipes. These fertile spots are a sign of a sewer leak. Cracks in the pipe allow sewage to seep out, which delivers extra nutrients to the surrounding soil.

  • Deterioration of sewer pipes is to be expected over their years of service. As pipes break down, blockages form and restrict drainage. The pipe section may be able to be repaired, but replacement is often recommended in this situation.

  • Off-grade pipes. When a home’s sewer pipes are composed of outdated or substandard material, corrosion and deterioration is to be expected. It is recommended that these pipes be replaced with pipes made of newer, stronger materials.

Maintenance for Louisville Sewer Lines

The prevention of clogs is the most important step a Louisville homeowner can take to protect underground plumbing pipes. The best protection is simple and doesn’t cost you a penny: keep inappropriate materials out of your drains. Use strainers to catch hair and food particles before they are washed into pipes. Don’t flush baby wipes, feminine hygiene products, or any paper products besides toilet paper – even if the product is meant to be flushable.

Our plumbers recommend Bio-Clean, which is a product that helps Louisville homeowners maintain their drains without risking damage from harsh chemical solutions. Bio-Clean uses bacteria and enzymes to digest organic waste inside sewer pipes, such as hair, food, soap scum, paper, and more.
