Gas Plumbing Service for Louisville
Certain plumbing projects require specialized knowledge. One of those areas is natural gas line plumbing. Most homeowners understand plumbing as a line of services dealing with water and sewer systems. But in fact, there is much more to the profession—and gas plumbing is one of the specialties in the field. Gas lines are a vital part of your home: they power your stoves, your fireplace, your water heater, and other appliances in and around the house that keep your home warm, dry, and comfortable. When you need repairs, the right professional can mean the difference between a reliable and efficient system for years, or repeated calls to the repair service for additional issues.
Why Do I Need a Special Plumber for Natural Gas Lines?
Since pipes carrying natural gas are potentially more dangerous than water pipes if not properly installed, it makes sense to choose an experienced natural gas plumber to work on this project. Natural gas plumbers are not typically journeymen plumbers and certainly not apprentice plumbers, who must work under supervision. Any thoughts of gas fitting (gas plumbing) as a DIY project should be reconsidered. Proceeding without training will compromise your personal safety, along with your family’s (and perhaps even your neighbors’) safety.
Safe, Efficient Gas Line Services
Natural gas is a common way to fuel home appliances. It is both efficient and cost-effective. In addition to heating and cooling systems, natural gas can fuel kitchen appliances, hot water heaters, and fireplaces. Using natural gas appliances is safe, convenient, and energy-efficient, but gas fitting is not a DIY project. Working with natural gas pipes is skill-intensive. Natural gas is extremely flammable, leaving untrained individuals vulnerable to accidents resulting in fire/explosions, property damage, injuries, and potentially fatal CO poisoning. Jarboe’s Plumbing, Heating & Cooling is experienced in responding to the technical challenges of gas line installation in homes around Louisville. Our expert natural gas plumbers use proper equipment, procedures, and precautions when working with natural gas.
Signs It’s Time to Repair or Replace Your Gas Line
While natural gas is considered safe for residential use, the potential for gas leaks does exist. If your home uses natural gas, it’s a good idea to learn the symptoms of a gas leak and what to do if one occurs. Jarboe’s Plumbing, Heating & Cooling treats gas line leaks as an emergency and can promptly arrive at your place to locate and repair the leak. Gas leaks are the most common cause of gas line repairs and replacements. Underground gas lines are often damaged by either being struck by a shovel while digging or through the deterioration of the pipe. Leaks can occur outside the home in the underground pipes, at the gas meter, or inside the home at the connection location of appliances. Many older appliances have a brass connector that secures them to the actual gas line. These connectors can rust or degrade over time, which allows gas to seep into the home. We can replace these brass connectors with coated or stainless steel fittings, which will not degrade. In addition, we can perform annual inspections on underground gas lines that run to outdoor grills, lamps or other buildings to ensure that they haven’t degraded.
There are several tangible signs of a gas leak that you should be on the lookout for:
- Monitor for a rotten egg or sulfur-like odor in or around the home. This odor is added to natural gas to help alert you to a leak.
- Look for dead or dying vegetation around gas valves, lines, or meters.
- Look for dirt or dust blowing up from a hole in the ground. In areas of damp soil, you will see bubbles forming.
- Listen for a hissing sound coming from gas appliances, lines, or valves.
- In severe cases, flames may be present at the sign of a gas leak.
